Morningstar UMC-1 USB Meterbus Adapter

The USB MeterBus Adapter (model: UMC-1) converts the Morningstar MeterBus RJ-11 electrical interface to a standard USB 2.0 interface. This allows communication between a Windows-based computer and Morningstar charge controllers or inverters that have a MeterBus connection, but no serial or other communications port. This includes the ProStar MPPT, Sunsaver MPPT, ProStar, SunSaver DUO, and SureSine products.

The UMC-1 can be used for:

• Programming custom charging set-points
• Downloading, viewing, and logging data using Morningstar’s MSView PC software
• Uploading new firmware
• Communication with any 3rd party hardware that supports MODBUS™ communication

Establishing a communications link enables the monitoring or logging of data from the controller or inverter as well as the customizing of any user-adjustable settings. The Morningstar UMC-1 makes available a wide variety of data stored in Morningstar’s products (varies by product).

The UMC-1 can provide data for:

• Battery Voltage (including minimum and maximum)
• Solar charge current to the battery
• Load current from the battery
• Accumulated solar and load amp hours
• Charge Stage
• Errors and alarms
• Local and battery temperature
• Data logging files

All data is transmitted in the form of MODBUS protocol. This industry standard was chosen for a high level of compatibility with a variety of equipment. Each Morningstar product has its own data specification.

UMC-1 Kit Contents

The UMC-1 is sold as a kit that includes the following:

• UMC-1 USB MeterBus Adapter
• USB A to USB B cable: 1 meter (3.3 feet)
• RJ-11 cable with connectors: 1 meter (3.3 feet)

Morningstar UMC-1 Warranty

All of Morningstar’s charge controller components are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of FIVE (5) years from the date of shipment to the original end user. Morningstar will, at its option, repair or replace any such defective products.
